Mini case study featuring Arizona Polymer Flooring's Epoxy 600 Fast Cure System:
Contractor: Founded in 2000, Pro Surfacing specializes in high-performance surface installation for demanding environments, from conventional production flooring to chemical containment areas and the highly specialized needs of food and beverage processing facilities.
Background: Following years of wear and tear, the existing epoxy flooring at a Papa John’s production facility in Dallas, TX had become difficult to maintain and clean. The flooring needed more than a thin film coating because of high traffic in the area; however, the owners couldn’t afford downtime for a full system.
The Challenge: Pro Surfacing only had a 60-hour window from the start of prep until the room had to be sanitized for food production to resume. This allowed very little time for drying between coats. Plus, the flooring had to cure in time for a return to service 12 hours after the final coat was applied.
The Solution: Pro Surfacing selected APF’s Epoxy 600 Fast Cure (FC) System with a double broadcast and single pigmented topcoat. This system was chosen for its bonding properties and superior resistance to food and detergents that constantly come in contact with the floor surface. Additionally, this low-VOC system had a very low odor, which the customer required.
To start, the surface was degreased. Areas that were not solid were demoed and patched. The entire floor was ground to open up the existing floor coating. The floor was primed with APF’s Epoxy 600p FC and was broadcasted to refusal with color quartz sand. Another coat of the same was applied along with another broadcast to build the floor up. Then, a final coat of 600p FC was applied to achieve a textured finish that would be slip resistant when wet.
Pro Surfacing successfully completed the project in the time allotted and met all customer requirements.
