There was a remarkable showdown today in Aspen/Snowmass at the second annual Power of Four mountain bike race as the 16-year-old, Keegan Swirbul beat out biking legend – Lance Armstrong – by five minutes with a time of three hours and fifty-six minutes (3:56:00). Armstrong finished second with a time of 4:01:02. The two battled back and forth throughout the race – over 9,000 feet of vertical gain and drop, and 36 miles of top-rated single track and demanding double track – covering each four area mountains. The race started at 8 a.m. in Snowmass, proceeded to Buttermilk, then Aspen Highlands and finished at the base of Aspen Mountain.

"I'm so psyched," says Swirbul. "The race was ridiculously hard and I just wanted to beat Lance so bad."

After the race Armstrong tweeted, “Had a blast racing the #poweroffour this morning. Got whooped up on by a kid young enough to be my son! Keegan Swirbul - remember that name!”

Swirbul is from Carbondale, Colo. and recently took fourth in the first Master of the Mass mountain bike race in Snowmass earlier this summer.  When asked about the Power of Four course he responded, "My favorite part was Government Trail and the hardest part was definitely that last climb up Midnight Mine."

The third and fourth place finishers kept a very close race, coming in only 10 seconds apart.  Aspen Mountain ski patroller, Max Taam of Aspen, Colo. took third with a time of 4:14:10 and Greg Strokes of Snowmass Village, Colo. came in hot on the heels of Taam to take fourth with a time of 4:14:20.  Scott Leonard of Carbondale, Colo. and Mountain Flyer magazine took fifth with a time of 4:24:07.

The fastest relay team comprised of Aspen Mountain ski patroller Annie Gonzales and Charlie Eckart of Aspen, Colo. finished with a time of 4:16:29. The top woman rider was Tammy Jacques-Grewal of Steamboat Springs, Colo. with a time of 4:40:56.
