SANTA SURPRISES STUDENTS WITH 20 SAMSUNG GALAXY 8.9 TABLETS

Holiday event includes additional donation of $10,000 to support KIPP Houston and YES Prep Public Schools from AT&T

HOUSTON, TX. AT&T* surprised 20 high school seniors today from KIPP Houston and YES Prep Public Schools with gifts from a special “Secret Santa.” The students participated in a school ceremony where AT&T enhanced its investment in education by donating $5,000 to each school’s college preparation program for a combined gift of $10,000 to the schools.

However, it was Santa who was keeping a big holiday secret from the student participants. He surprised each of the 20 students with their very own Samsung Galaxy 8.9 Tablet at the KIPP Houston High School campus.

“These gifts reflect AT&T’s ongoing support of education in Houston. The computer tablets were a thrill for our surprised seniors who have been working around-the-clock to prepare for finals and completing college applications,” said Mike Feinberg, founder of KIPP. “Our schools will use the generous monetary donation from AT&T to help pay for KIPP students to take college preparation exams so we can make sure they are ready for success in college.”

YES Prep and KIPP Houston have proven track records for preparing low-income students for college. “We’re delighted to provide these 20 high school seniors with tablets that will help support their college careers,” said Kerrick Henny, vice president AT&T-Texas. “These tablets are just like hand-held computers that students can easily carry to class providing them another resource to be successful.

“We are grateful that AT&T is rewarding our hard-working students with a gift they can use for personal and educational purposes,” said Jason Bernal, CEO of YES Prep Public Schools. “We will use our donation from AT&T to send our students on college field trips across the country. These trips allow our students to see what college life is like first-hand and help them decide which university will be the best fit.”
