PARK CITY, Utah – Backcountry.com is throwing out the welcome mat and leaving the lights on for superskiers Cody Townsend, KC Deane, and Andrew Whiteford, who all, this month, have been named new members of the specialty retailer’s Pro Team. Like the other members of the stacked and diverse Team, each is known for his individualistic style and character on and off the mountain.
Backcountry.com Sports Marketing Manager, Jonny Atencio, has no doubt that the new guys will do the Goat proud.
“Bringing Cody, KC, and Andrew on board bolsters the ski side of things on our team,” said Atencio. “Each of these guys kills it in his own way. With lifetimes spent on skis and their engaging personalities, they’re all great representations of the Backcountry brand.”
Cody Townsend is the kind of skier who deserves a star on the sidewalks of Squallywood. With a penchant for sniffing out powdery big-mountain lines, Townsend’s moves in front of the camera for Warren Miller, Matchstick Productions and Teton Gravity Research has garnered him recognition for Best Segment, Line of the Year and Best Powder awards. But, his most coveted trophy is definitely the golden saucer he earned for straight-lining the Chinese Downhill event at the 2011 Pain McShlonkey Classic.
“Skiing is not serious, so don't take yourself seriously when doing it or talking about it,” said Townsend.
Chances are you’ve seen KC Deane ripping down steep pitches on film or getting on nicely in the mags. When he’s not filming, he’s probably either hunting for untracked lines in the Pacific Northwest or burning the midnight oil as an undergrad.
You could call Andrew Whiteford Mr. POV for his epic film edits. After cutting his teeth in the hardwoods of Vermont and being a regular in front of the camera for East Coast-based Meathead Films, Whiteford has been exploring and slaying snow in Jackson, Wyo. for five years. Whiteford loves big lines, steep landings and long postholes through powder. In the off-season, Whiteford trades his skis for his downhill bike and seeks his lines on Teton Pass.
On snow, on rock, in the air — Backcountry.com’s Pro Team is made up of athletes that live for the next adventure. They are progressive freeskiers, pioneering snowboarders, hard-wired alpinists and big-wall climbers, cutting-edge ski mountaineers, and bad-ass tele skiers, BASE jumpers, and ultrarunners. But, most of all they share undying passion for what they do.
Townsend, Deane and Whiteford join the other athletes on the Backcountry.com Pro Team: Seth Morrison, Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, Pep Fujas, Chris and Ted Davenport, Erik Roner, Ingrid Backstrom, Grete Eliassen, Johnny and Angel Collinson, Jess McMillan, Jackie Paaso, Jenn Berg, Kim Havell, Shaun Raskin, Greg Hill, Andrew Mclean, Julian Carr, Cody Barnhill, Noah Howell, Rachael Burks, Drew Tabke, Jamey Parks, Leo Ahrens, Sammo Cohen, Nick Devore, Chris Erickson, Andy Jacobsen, Will Cardamone, Jeremy Jones, Chris Tatsuno, Steph Davis, Renan Ozturk, Cedar Wright, Karl Meltzer and Evan Stevens.
