Blastro.com Picks UK Urban Artists For “International Spotlight”

Grassroots Development Leads to Success in the United Kingdom

Blastro.com, the web’s leading independent music video site, chose the United Kingdom for its “International Spotlight” feature for October. The feature highlights editor’s picks from a country’s artist roster of music videos in the form of a playlist, and it lives in a flash box on the Blastro.com homepage, rotating monthly.

Rob Campanell, Blastro’s director of content programming, cites Jay Sean as a prime example of the grassroots movement that has been developing for over a decade in the UK urban scene. Videos from T2, Panjabi MC, Mz Bratt, Kano, Mumzy Stranger, Downside and Dizzee Rascal also compose this month’s playlist: http://www.blastro.com/player/playlist_48842.html.

“UK urban artists stopped looking toward America for direction and started forging their own identity,” Campanell said. “Media also rose up to nurture the UK urban scene as BBC Radio began producing numerous shows dedicated to the urban subgenres, and Channel AKA was programming the music videos on satellite television.”
