Austin, TX – Roxwel.com recently conducted a video interview with French alternative rock band Phoenix after recording an acoustic rendition of “Lisztomania” at their fan meet-and-greet before their Austin, TX show on December 17, 2009. During the interview, Deck D'Arcy (bass) and Christian Mazzalai (guitar) talk about their “cool, polite and respectful” fans and the excitement surrounding their Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.
Mazzalai said, “The new joke is to play with Prince at the Grammy Awards. Maybe it will happen?” He continued, “We want to play ‘1901’ and ‘1999.’”
As it turns out, Phoenix actually got their start playing Prince and Hank Williams covers to drunk audiences on the French bar circuit. Considering this, wouldn’t it be fitting for this joke/dream to come true, especially if these talented and humble musicians win the Grammy?
