Blinds.com Ranked the #1 E-Commerce Company in Houston

The Houston Business Journal has named Blinds.com the top e-commerce company in Houston, Texas. This honor comes right on the heels of their AMA Marketer of the Year, Best Places to Work, and Better Business Bureau Excellence awards. The list ranks the city’s pure-play and multi-channel vendors, drawing much-needed attention to the growing number of online retailers that call the fourth largest city in the United States home.

“We’re incredibly proud to represent Houston and we’re doing everything we can to clear a path to make it easier for online retailers to flourish here,” says founder and CEO Jay Steinfeld. “This recognition is especially significant to us as we continue to grow our business locally.”

Although cities like Austin and San Francisco are known for being “e-commerce friendly,” Houston is quickly catching up. Recently named a “Model City” by Forbes Magazine and home to one of the richest business plan competitions in the world, Houston is ripe to become a hotbed of start-up activity.

According to Marc Nathan, Vice President of Strategy for ChaiONE Digital Agency, Houston’s business-friendly atmosphere, the lower cost of living, and the entrepreneurial nature of its denizens are the triple threat leading to this swell of innovation and growth.

“Houstonians have in effect 'grown up' from the classic perception of the blue-collar, Urban Cowboy oil worker to the much more sophisticated image of knowledge workers in both engineering and information technology,” says Nathan. “Technology is the backbone of two of our biggest industries, Energy and Healthcare and all of the services that support them so Houston has attracted a wide variety of people following technical career paths.”

Steinfeld began his business in 1994 before most people had email, not realizing that his $3,000 website investment would grow to an $80 million business. He attributes Blinds.com’s success to slow and steady growth and its culture of excellence.

“We’ve incurred no debt, we hire motivated people who are in line with the values and mission of the company, and we have a lot of fun at the Blinds.Complex. It’s been an incredible journey so far,” said Steinfeld.
