On July 18, local artists will come together for Paint Day. They will each be given a roller shade, canvas or vinyl, on which to create a work of art using whatever type of paint they choose. The community is encouraged to join the artists on that day as they work, as are families who have been helped by the Furniture Bank. There will be refreshments, food, and live entertainment. Members of the media are welcome.
The painted shades will be exhibited and sold at at The Furniture, Arts, and Decor Expo. They will also be available for purchase ahead of time in an online gallery. All proceeds from the shade purchases will go to the Furniture Bank. The pieces will be displayed at the Pre-Party the evening before the Expo, giving the artists exposure among sponsors and donors. Artists are welcome to come to The Furniture, Arts, and Decor Expo to see all of the pieces beautifully displayed.
There are over 80 Houston organizations that help less fortunate families obtain residences, but what happens once these families finally get their four walls? On what do they sleep? In what do they cook? The Furniture Bank supplies, at incredibly low rates (or free!), furniture, cooking utensils, bedding/towels, and anything else necessary to make a house a home. Many of the children in the families who receive furniture have never slept in a bed. Their parents are accustomed to making beans for dinner by placing the can directly on the stove to heat it.
