In addition to vendor and traditional conference attendees, the conference is adding a new element to help change the perception of HR. A group of bloggers and social media HR enthusiasts will be responsible for tweeting and blogging throughout the conference.
In late 2010, OKHR State Council established their association blog and began building their social media presence online. The council, which is part of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), is the 8th largest professional organization in the world, is hoping to drive awareness and educate professionals on the HR industry using social media as a main catalyst.
OKHR PR and Social Media Director, Jessica Miller-Merrell, SPHR says, "As social media grows in popularity, our association is looking for ways to communicate to current and prospective members as well as the Oklahoma businesses as a whole."
Miller-Merrell says, "HR should play a pivotal role in a company's social media policy and strategy. Because of it (social media's) widespread use by employees, HR professionals are conducting employee investigations on sites like Facebook, blogs, and text messaging. Because of this, it's important for HR to understand social media."
In addition to using social media to communicate with HR professionals, the conference has opened itself up to the press for the first time. Press hours during conference on May 4th and 5th are 11:00 AM-3:00 PM as well as 10:00-12:00 PM May 6th.
Press interested in attending the conference should contact Miller-Merrell at 405-343-5751 or by email at pr@okhr.org.
The Annual OKHR State Conference is May 4-6th in Norman, Oklahoma, at the Embassy Suites. Registration is still available with up to 16 HRCI recertification credits available at www.okhrconference.com.
