Boomers and Retirees Surging into Medical Marijuana Business

New Website The Unruly Mob Details the Trend

11.03.2009 – The Unruly Mob, the website for people changing their lives, reports that older people are surging into the Medical Marijuana business in CA, and that law somewhat favors their businesses http://www.theunrulymob.com/whats-next/encore-careers/boomers-and-retirees-are-plunging-into-the-medical-marijuana-business/.

“As owners of houses left empty by kids moving out but unsellable in the current economic climate, boomers, retired or not, often possess the critical infrastructure to become marijuana growers – empty unused indoor space,” The Unruly Mob said. “They also have the time to become growers and the financial motivation to jump into the business as a result of devastated retirement funds and a bleak employment outlook facing aging boomers.

“The start up costs can be low, as little as $7,500, profit potential is great,” the site said.

The Unruly Mob spoke to three companies training people entering the Medical Marijuana business and all reported an increase in older people training to enter the business.
The oddity in the CA law that appears to favor older people is the provision that growers and dispensers of Medical Marijuana can provide for physician-recommended people who are “known” to them. Just as a function of age, older people are more likely to know people suffering from the conditions for which doctors can prescribe Medical Marijuana, an educator said.
The Unruly Mob provides what it calls “info, ideas and inspiration” for people searching for what’s next in their lives. The site focuses on business ideas and new places to live.

“Not since the 60s has there been such a yearning in people to redefine themselves,” said The Unruly Mob founder, Tony Polk, a former newsman (AP, The Rocky Mountain News) returning to journalism after a business career. “People are doing amazing things for themselves and the world and we intend to chronicle and champion that change.”
