Guests will get the unique opportunity to participate in an intimate discussion with Julie Powell, the best selling author, memoirist and blogger, about her year-long journey of cooking her way through all 524 recipes in Julia Child's 1961 classic tome on French cuisine, "Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Volume I". After completing each recipe, she blogged her experience to a growing community of faithful followers. This project blog, which was witty and irreverent, became a big hit on the internet and led to the publication of her memoir about her year-long quest and the film adaptation Julie & Julia starring Amy Adams and Meryl Streep.
On July 1, 2009, Le Cordon Bleu International President André J. Cointreau presented Julie Powell with an honorary Le Cordon Bleu diploma for her dedication and passion in her culinary pursuits during a special ceremony at La Comédie Française in Paris.
Guests will enjoy a four-course gourmet meal featuring one dish from Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking". The entire meal will be prepared and served by Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts students (all volunteers). Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Scottsdale is honored to be the host sponsor for this event. This internationally renowned school for culinary arts and hospitality management has become synonymous with expertise, innovation, tradition, refinement and service.
The proceeds of the evening will benefit the Camp Soaring Eagle Foundation which provides camping programs to children with chronic and life threatening illnesses - completely free of charge to the campers and their families.
