Olympic film to benefit quake survivors

Quick Pitch
Former Discovery Channel Producer Siok Siok Tan launches Facebook Film Application to benefit the Library Project

Full Release

Singaporean producer Siok Siok Tan, who has 12 Asian TV Awards to her credit, produced a humorous, insightful and thought provoking documentary about the games.

Created in concert with her students from the Beijing Film Institute, Boomtown Beijing depicts an 11-Year old boy who wants to beat the odds to become a torch bearer; a road sweeper who dreams of orchestrating a mass ribbon waving performance; and a blind athlete in his last quest for Gold. It is a poignant snapshot of Beijing the summer before the games.

Ms Tan is donating the proceeds from her film to assist the Library Project, a 501C3 charity and its two-year old (and continuing) mission to build dozens of libraries in rural villages and orphanages throughout Asia. The newest initiative for the project is to rebuild rural school libraries devastated by the Sichuan earthquake.

Praise for Boomtown:

“It is an authentic, objective and heartfelt look at a Beijing and its citizens that few foreigners will ever see. Tan is one of the few filmmakers with the cultural savvy to shine and polish these rare human gems” – -OneManBandwidth

There are numerous candid moments caught on film, which makes this documentary highly watchable and memorable.”
– A Nutshell Review

“Watching Siok Siok’s Boomtown Beijing yesterday suddenly gave me a brand new perspective on what the “average” man on the street of Beijing is feeling about their upcoming Olympics, and more importantly how what we feel about China has been largely shaped by what the media has wanted us to hear and see.

Using the new "Involver" film promotion application on Facebook, Siok Siok Tan hopes to introduce viewers to the real Beijing and its people while raising much needed funds for the young survivors of one the century's most tragic natural disasters.
