The opening of COSI's building on November 6, 1999 at 333 West Broad Street garnered widespread international publicity. From architectural magazines in Japan to Vogue to Time magazine's two-page spread, COSI and its new building were trumpeted far and wide.
The building was designed by world famous architect Arata Isozaki. According to Isozaki, the east side of COSI "speaks about tradition, memory, the past," while the west side "speaks about innovation, hope, the future."
COSI's building was designed around the former Central High School which was built in 1924 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
