The exhibit has many interactive activities, including a thermal imaging camera to do a “home energy audit” of two walls of a home. Cold air inside the walls lets visitors compare a regular glass window to an innovative energy efficient glass window. Visitors can use alternative fuel stations to explore the costs and efficiency of different types of fuel. They can compare the efficiency of light bulbs and discover what may be using up energy in their home.
Using an interactive video monitor, visitors can explore the careers of energy innovators from Algaeventure Systems, Battelle Memorial Institute, Greenovate, Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, PPG Industries, Inc., Transportation Research Center and Watt 1 Electrical Systems. The stories were chosen to represent a diverse range of education and experience in the energy field, so middle school and high school students might identify with the paths taken by the innovators. Throughout the exhibition, visitors are encouraged to become energy innovators too.
Visionary support for the Innovation Showcase was provided by the American Electric Power Foundation. Additional support provided by Dynalab, Inc. and PPG Industries Foundation.
