(Columbus) – The Columbus Historical Society and COSI are pleased to announce the society’s new location in COSI’s building.  The CHS has moved in, construction has started and the new gallery will open in February.  The move to COSI comes in conjunction with the 200th birthday of Columbus.

“We are delighted the Columbus Historical Society will be joining us,” said David E. Chesebrough, Ed. D., President and CEO of COSI.  “We are excited to see the historical stories the CHS has to integrate our guests’ experiences that will allow both COSI and our visitors to reflect on the abundant history of our great city of Columbus.”

“The Columbus Historical Society is very excited about the expanded possibilities our new gallery space at COSI provides, said Jeffrey H. Lafever, Executive Director of the Columbus Historical Society.  “The new location broadens the outreach capabilities for CHS programs and displays and opens them up to new audiencesIt also allows the CHS to exhibit interactive multimedia displays on this history of Columbus designed by local graduate students in conjunction with typical artifacts and still images.  This will enhance the impact of The Columbus Historical Society for COSI visitors as well as CHS membership and guests.  Watch for more information coming soon about the Bicentennial Exhibit and new membership benefits from the partnership."

“The City of Columbus is pleased with the new partnership between the Columbus Historical Society and COSI,” said Mayor Michael B. Coleman, City of Columbus.  “Having the Columbus Historical Society inside COSI is a great opportunity for City of Columbus residents and visitors to COSI to learn more about the rich history of Columbus, especially during its bicentennial year.  More than half of COSI’s visitors each year are not from the Columbus area, meaning more exposure to a wider audience.”

The Columbus Historical Society researches, documents and collects the history of Central Ohio.  The Columbus Historical Society will be located on the first floor of COSI, and will offer both permanent and rotating exhibitions.  New opportunities for volunteers, work study students and interns are also being developed.  For more information on the Columbus Historical Society, visit www.columbushistory.org or call 614.224.0822.
