“Their hands were giving away their age,” says Dr. Isaacson, adding that most patients realized the need after undergoing treatments to their face and body. Dr. Berzin adds, “Patients were finally able to put their finger on the problem, which was their own hands.”
The problem can be seen in the increased visibility of veins due to the loss of skin volume. Loose skin, wrinkles and age spots also contribute to “old lady hands.” To correct the problem, Drs. Isaacson and Berzin primarily use Sculptra®. It’s an injectable and long-lasting cosmetic filler used to add volume to the skin. Sculptra also helps keeps the tendons and blood vessels from showing. Drs. Isaacson and Berzin are both certified Sculptra trainers, teaching other doctors how to use the product.
In other cases, patients opt for Thermage. The state-of-the-art process utilizes intense radio frequencies to tighten skin and naturally stimulate collagen. Age spots are dealt with by using Fraxel Laser Treatment-which restores the skin using pixels of light. In many cases, a combination of treatments is utilized. Whatever the process, pain is minimal-usually just a little redness to the skin. Results are rapid, usually seen after just a few treatments.
The costs of the procedures vary. On average, hand treatments run $1000-$1200 per session with Sculptra  (3-4 treatments needed). Thermage is $2500 (1 treatment needed). Fraxel is $2200 for a package of four treatments
