The 16-page booklet is the product of collaboration between National Geographic photojournalist Lynn Johnson and Decker Design creative director, Lynda Decker. The piece was printed by Digital Color Concepts (DCC). Delicate Strength is the second in a series of booklets that show how expert graphic design and printing can amplify the impact of photographic art. The first was “Route 66: The Road Taken” by Ed Keating.
Lynn Johnson’s photographic vision is subtle; her photographs invites to viewers to find the meaning in the frame. Her shooting style is equally low key. Johnson’s unique ability to become virtually invisible makes her subjects unconcerned with the camera, and culminates in photographs that are at once revealing and compassionate.
“Lynn’s work reveals subtle emotion. Whether it is a gesture, a touch or a glance, it speaks to love, friendship and our common humanity, notes Decker. I first worked with Lynn in 2008, on an annual report project. The subject was quality in healthcare. She captured the plight of the elderly, infirm and the downtrodden -- not only preserving the dignity of and respect for her subjects but transporting you right into their shoes.”
Decker curated the collection from hundreds photos, many of which appear on Johnson’s website as part of a broader cultural story.
