Halifax, Nova Scotia Hosts Major November Conferences, Highlighting Benefits of Destination

Collaborative approach to Halifax conventions, including CanSPEP and the Halifax International Security Forum, coupled with destination’s rich history makes city a “natural choice” for meetings and conferences.

11.03.2009 – Halifax, Nova Scotia (PRWEB) November 4, 2009 – -- Halifax, Nova Scotia will be in the spotlight during two key events being hosted in the city this November. Influential meeting planners from across Canada will see the best of what Halifax offers as an event destination during the 2009 Canadian Society of Professional Event Planners (CanSPEP) conference (November 12-15). The following week, the first Halifax International Security Forum (November 20-22) brings security policymakers, opinion leaders and analysts from six continents to Halifax.

“Hosting these two conferences is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the Halifax convention experience,” says Hélène Moberg, Executive Director of Sales, Destination Halifax and co-chair of CanSPEP. “Halifax is an ideal destination for many domestic and international events with great air access, a compact downtown core and a unique mix of urban and rural offering.”

According to Craig Kennedy, President of the German Marshall Fund of the United States, the organization coordinating the Halifax International Security Forum, Halifax’s history as a port city with Halifax Harbour was part of its appeal. “Halifax is a natural choice for a security conference of this magnitude,” says Kennedy. “The Port of Halifax, the Canadian Atlantic fleet, and Halifax’s history with both Europe and the United States are a perfect fit for the topics that will be covered in the Halifax International Security Forum and the high-level people who will attend.”

Another appealing aspect of hosting events in Halifax is the team approach of the industry toward working with planners. “The city embraces hospitality partners looking to host Halifax events, says Rita Plaskett, CMP, CMM and Co-Chair of the 2009 CanSPEP conference.” “There’s a can-do attitude, coupled with enthusiasm, passion, knowledge and creativity. “
