A Mother's Day Present to Change the World

ToMamaWithLove.org Launches to Raise $50K for Tanzanian School

05.03.2010 – Following on their tremendous success with Tweetsgiving, Epic Change is putting a new spin on Mother's Day. The newly launched "To Mama With Love" campaign harnesses the power of Twitter and blogs to honor moms across the globe, and raise funds for one remarkable mama to change the world. Epic Change hopes to raise $50,000 in just on week (campaign runs from May 3 - May 9, 2010) to fund a home for 50 children in Arusha, Tanzania. The home is the vision of local changemaker Mama Lucy Kamptoni who once sold chickens and used her income as seed capital to build a school that now serves over 400 children in her village.

Participating is as simple as showing a mama your love by creating a heartspace on the site - this can include photos, videos, writing, and artwork - and giving in her honor. Organic Beauty Now of San Francisco, CA will donate $1 for every tweet (up to 2,000) that mentions #ToMamaWithLove to fund room for two students at the boarding facility.

Epic Change founder Stacey Monk is excited about all the Mama love. "We think it will be very powerful to see people across the globe join together to share love for their mamas. Even better will be seeing a home for children envisioned by Tanzanian changemaker Mama Lucy Kamptoni built with funds given in honor of the love we share for our mamas.”

Tara Verkuil, CEO of event sponsor Organic Beauty Now, believes "To Mama with Love" will spread rapidly through social networks since donors can do something wonderful for a mama they love, and help another Mama at the same time. "People will be able to make a Mother's Day contribution in a public and very meaningful way, and in doing so, be part of something much bigger," says Verkuil.

“I am hopeful that we will exceed our fundraising goals of $50,000 to invest in building a home for 50 children and more - making this a very special Mother's Day for Mama Lucy and her students in Tanzania," says Monk.

The project is the brainchild of Ms. Monk and Epic Change co-founder Sanjay Patel. They collaborated with graphic designer Lulu Kitololo, a team of volunteer developers and social media activists, and sponsors Organic Beauty Now, Radian6 & VideoGo to put together and promote "To Mama With Love."
