Fox River® Enhances AXT® Sock Collection Geared for Trail Running and Fast Backpacking Markets

Updated fit system enhances performance for high intensity workouts and adds versatility

OSAGE, Iowa (Aug. 4, 2011) — Fox River, a leading U.S. manufacturer of outdoor, sport and workwear performance socks since 1900, is stepping up its game in the trail running and fast backpacking markets this Spring with the Adventure Cross Terrain (AXT®) Collection.

Ideal for strenuous outdoor activities such as trail running, adventure racing, mountain biking, and backpacking, the AXT collection provides added support like never before. The URfit™ personalized fit system features memory-knit construction, spandex compression zones around the arch and ankle, a unique split-heel spandex support, as well as reinforced zones and a smooth, flat toe seam for durability and comfort.

The AXT collection features Fox River’s unique blend of super fine Merino wool and recycled polyester fibers to create a technical sock built for greater durability and enhanced moisture transfer. Fox River’s exclusive Wick Dry® technology moves moisture away from the foot in a vapor state, eliminating moisture build-up that can lead to hot spots and blisters, while wool naturally reduces odor and thermoregulates.

Soft, recycled polyester fibers are combined with the added strength of nylon to create a more durable Merino product without excessive bulk or weight. Waffle-knit mesh zones also help repel moisture from the outer layers of the sock to keep adventurers dry and comfortable.

“Fox River has a long-standing history for making high performance, great fitting socks,” said Fox River co-owner, Jeff Lessard. “The AXT collection satisfies the demand of the discerning outdoor customer looking for a long-lasting, hybrid Merino product that can withstand rigorous physical activity. Plus, with the new fit and styling offer today’s multi-sport adventurer the flexibility and freedom to go from one activity to the next without missing a step.”

The complete AXT collection will be on display in the Fox River booth (#24044) during the Outdoor Retailer Trade Show in Salt Lake City August 4-7.

AXT® Performance Characteristics
Delivers better fit for multi-sport, multi-terrain uses
This new collection of AXT socks features an enhanced fit system that hugs your foot. With memory-knit construction featuring spandex in every stitch and spandex compression zones (all-around spandex arch brace and split-heel spandex support) these socks are made to mimic your foot’s natural motion without slipping or bunching. This gives you great flexibility to go from trail running to hiking to backpacking to mountain biking — pretty much anything without worrying about performance.

Resists abrasion for outstanding durability
Abrasion resistance is a key factor in determining the life of a sock. Tests have demonstrated that AXT socks have a wear resistance, on average 3 ½ times higher than other Merino wool socks because they are reinforced with recycled polyester and nylon.

Offers lightweight comfort for enhanced performance
When compared to the same volume of regular wool, AXT socks weigh 40% less. As adventure racers and trail runners can attest, every ounce of weight saved is energy earned for distance and speed. In fact, tests have shown that a 3½-ounce reduction in shoe weight means a one percent reduction in final race time.

Reduces pilling and static for better appearance and comfort
Because AXT uses long staple fibers, they ran high in tests against other fibers such as cotton, wool, silk, nylon, acrylic and polyester when it comes to static and pilling resistance. Both add to the life of the sock and to the comfort of the wearer—and it has the added benefit of feeling extra soft against the skin.

Provides natural thermoregulation for comfort
Made from Merino wool, these AXT socks provide natural thermoregulation keeping you cool in the heat and warm in the cold. That means AXT socks will keep the body at an ideal temperature even under the worst weather conditions and can be worn in any season.

Protects from ankle discomfort and shoe abrasion
The new AXT ankle style is great for trail runners and adventure racers with its unique double-tab design. The front higher tab offers cushion from tongue pressure during strenuous activities and a padded rear ankle tab secures the sock from slipping during movement and comforts ankle from shoe rub.
