“We’ve added more activities to the weekend and moved up the Annual Benefit Sock Sale to provide customers with better weather and a better experience. It can be a great getaway instead of just a good deal, although we’ll have plenty of those too,” said Becky Lessard, Vice President of Finance and Administration for Fox River Mills, Inc. “In early October, the weather is warmer and the leaves in Osage—the City of Maples—are really beautiful. There’s just so much more to do at this time of year than later.”
The Fox River Annual Benefit Sock Sale will take place on the Mitchell County Fairgrounds at the Cedar River Complex Event Center in Osage for three days — Friday, Oct. 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 9 from noon to 4:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Other vendors and organizations will be onsite selling food, gifts and more.
On Saturday, October 8th, participants will put on their FoxSox performance socks and run or walk 5K in the inaugural Red Heel Run. Early registration for the 5k Red Heel Run is due September 16 to reserve your free t-shirt, pair of FoxSox and free breakfast from the Osage American Legion Post 278. Late registration and same-day sign-up will be accepted. Learn more about the Red Heel Run at foxsox.com, or simply register at GetMeRegistered.com. There also will be a free Kids’ Fun Run for children 12 and under (no t-shirt, socks or breakfast included).
“People travel from hours and even states away for the sale,” said Lessard. “It’s a great trip through Northern Iowa no matter where you’re coming from. We hope the better weather in October will encourage day trips to see the leaves and various Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota tourism sites.”
“This has always been a great event—my family has been coming to the sale for years,” said Kelly Powell of Minneapolis. “With it earlier this year, the Red Heel Run, Fun Run and breakfast, it’s even more of a must-go weekend! I can’t wait to make the trek for great socks and family fun. My kids are so excited to run in the Fun Run for a chance to win a sock monkey!”
The 2010 sale of more than 100,000 pair of first-quality and “not-quite-perfect” socks drew a crowd of more than 8,000 people during the three-day event. “It has to be one of the largest sock sales in the country, if not the world,” says Lessard. “With mills closing across the country, we’re proud to be made right here in Iowa and in America. This sale is a great way for people see what difference a quality sock can make at an incredible bargain.” Generous savings can be found at the sale on many of Fox River’s hundreds of sock styles. Sale prices range from $1.00 to $3.00 per pair for socks that normally sell for $5.99 to $20.99 per pair. Fox River also will have sock monkeys, their pattern book and crafting supplies on sale for the crafting enthusiast on your list.
Fox River’s Socks that Care Foundation, the non-profit that directs the proceeds from the Annual Benefit Sock Sale and funds for other charitable efforts including breast care awareness support from proceeds from their popular Women’s Line, will be planning the event for an anticipated 10,000 attendees. By enlisting the help of the local Rotary, Kiwanis and Lions Club who benefit from the sale, it will be a can’t miss event. Plan on making the trip to beautiful Osage to discover the joy of FoxSox and true American-made quality, since 1900.
