OSAGE, IA — Fox River, maker of the famous Original Rockford Red Heel® Monkey Sock and premium performance socks, will host its Annual Benefit Sock Sale the second weekend in October in the picturesque town of Osage, Iowa. The Sale benefits local service organizations to help support community programs, facilities and events throughout the year. This sale, traditionally held the first weekend in November, is just one way Fox River supports its employees, neighbors and community.
“We’ve moved up the Annual Benefit Sock Sale to provide customers with better weather and a better experience. It can be a great getaway instead of just a good deal, although we’ll have lots of those too,” said Becky Lessard, Vice President of Finance and Administration for Fox River Mills, Inc. “The weather is warmer and the leaves in Osage are really beautiful then. That’s why it’s called the City of Maples, plus there’s so much more to do at that time of year.”
The Fox River Annual Benefit Sock Sale will take place on the Mitchell County Fairgrounds at the Cedar River Event Center in Osage for three days — Friday, October 7th from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, October 8th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Sunday, October 9th from Noon to 4:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Other vendors and organizations will be onsite selling food, gifts, quilts and more.
“People travel from hours and even states away for the sale,” said Lessard. “It’s a great trip through Northern Iowa no matter where you’re coming from. We hope the better weather in October will encourage day trips to see the leaves and various Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota tourism sites.”
The 2010 sale of more than 100,000 pair of first-quality and “not-quite-perfect” socks drew a crowd of more than 8,000 people during the three-day event. “It has to be one of the largest sock sales in the world,” says Lessard. “With mills closing across the country, we’re proud to be made right here in Iowa and USA. It’s a great way for people to start seeing what a difference a quality sock can make at an affordable price.” Generous savings can be found at the sale on many of Fox River’s hundreds of sock styles. Sale prices range from $1.00 to $3.00 per pair for socks that normally sell for $5.99 to $20.99 per pair. Fox River will also have sock monkeys, a new pattern book and crafting supplies on sale for the crafting enthusiast on your list.
Fox River’s Socks that Care Foundation, the non-profit that directs the proceeds from the Annual Benefit Sock Sale and funds for other charitable efforts including proceeds from their popular Women’s Line, will be planning the event for an anticipated 10,000 attendees and enlisting the help of local organizations who benefit from the sale and the City of Osage to create a can’t miss event for 2011.
