05.20.2009 – Take a passionate ex-techie from Hoboken, NJ. Add premium Chilean merlot, natural fruit juices and pure cane sugar, and what you have is Señor Sangria, the newest, all-natural premium sangria that its maker says is better than homemade but without all the work.
Created by Rick Martinez from a personal sangria recipe he originally developed and bottled for friends and family, Señor Sangria represents the first of what Rick sees as a completely new category of premium bottled sangria.
“I’ve always been a fan of sangria, but simply wasn’t happy with what was available on the market,” Rick said. “Our new premium sangria respects the ingredients, with a focus on doing everything possible to create the finest bottled sangria available.”
In bringing Señor Sangria to retail shelves, Rick''s three-year road wasn’t easy. After selling his Hoboken apartment to fund the business, Rick moved in with his girlfriend, (now his fiancé) where he honed his sangria recipe for more than a year, while also holding a full-time job in the technology industry.
To jumpstart sales and distribution, Rick relied on aggressive grassroots marketing, which combined with consumer tasting events usually led to multiple sales.
In addition to self-funding his company, Rick took another risk by self-distributing his new sangria. Currently available in more than 30 retail outlets in New Jersey, Rick sees maintaining closer relationships with his retailers and responding to their feedback as one of the best aspects of selling his own sangria.
The suggested retail price for a 750ml bottle of Señor Sangria is $9.99, and may be purchased at a growing number of New Jersey retailers and online at www.senorsangria.com.
Señor Sangria will make its media debut on June 29 at the fifth annual Food Fete media event in New York City.
Sangria fans are invited to follow Señor Sangria on Facebook at facebook.senorsangria.com and Twitter at senorsangria.
