RYAN KAVANAUGH'S RELATIVITY MEDIA'S GOT THE TOOLS FOR 'MACGRUBER'
Will Forte's SNL Hero to Hit Screens. Jorma Taccone Co-Wrote and is Set to Direct. Lorne Michaels, John Goldwyn and Ryan Kavanaugh Tapped to Produce.
07.24.2009 – Relativity Media, LLC (RML) CEO Ryan Kavanaugh announced that the company is preparing to bring MacGruber to the big screen. The character was brought to life by Saturday Night Live cast member Will Forte and has been wildly popular since the bumbling spy parody made its premiere in 2007. Forte ("The Brothers Solomon"), who will return to SNL in the fall and stars in the upcoming "A Good Old Fashion Orgy," will co-write the script alongside SNL's Jorma Taccone and John Solomon. Taccone, who is perhaps best known for his co-creation and direction of the hit SNL Digital Shorts with his Lonely Island cohorts Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer, will direct. The film will be produced by Lorne Michaels, John Goldwyn and RML's Ryan Kavanaugh. Relativity's Tucker Tooley will executive produce alongside Erin David and SNL head writer, Seth Meyers.
"The character is an instant SNL classic," said Kavanaugh. "The film takes the hilarious concept from the skit, where he has only 30 seconds to live and builds it into a full-fledged story sure to make people of all ages laugh. Will, Kristen, Jorma, and John are amazing comedians, and will deliver a hilarious film."
The film will be distributed by Rogue, wholly owned by Relativity, which utilizes Universal distribution. The cast features Forte as the title character, with SNL co-star Kristen Wiig as the equally iconic "Vicki." Val Kilmer and Ryan Phillippe are in negotiations to join the cast. Filming will begin in August. The plot of the film is still under wraps.
Forte and Taccone are represented by United Talent Agency and Mosaic Media Group. Wiig is repped by United Talent Agency and Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment.

Relativity's 2008 slate included five of the top twelve highest-grossing films of the year; eighteen of the company's films have opened at #1 at the box office, and eighteen of RML's nineteen summer releases landed in the top three highest earners in their respective opening weekends. Their films have earned 29 Oscar(r) nominations, including nods for Frost/Nixon, Atonement, American Gangster, and 3:10 To Yuma. Twenty-nine of RML's films have each generated over $100 million in worldwide box office receipts. This past summer, Relativity Media, LLC announced an extensive international distribution program, which included thirteen output deals covering 100+ territories.
