11.10.2008 – Springfield, Ore. -- Local favorite Curtis Salgado will perform at the Richard E. Wildish Community Theater in downtown Springfield on Friday, November 21. The Washington Post called him a "superb soul and blues singer."
Curtis Salgado is a singer-songwriter who fronts his own band as the lead vocalist and plays the harmonica. Curtis lives in Portland, Ore., and he's well-known for having been the inspiration of John Belushi's Blues Brothers in the 1970s. Curtis Salgado performed with Robert Cray's band for six years and later with Santana. He overcame cancer in 2005 and is now touring all along the West Cost and Europe.
In addition to the public concert, Curtis Salgado will perform for 250 Springfield middle and high school students on Friday, Nov. 21 at 1 p.m. The 90-minute outreach program will give local students an opportunity to hear and see first-hand the story behind Curtis Salgado and his style of music. They will receive professional instruction and be entertained by Mr. Salgado's mastery of rhythm and blues vocals and the harmonica.
The third annual gala is a fundraiser to support the ongoing operations of the Theater. A pre-concert reception will be held at the Pump Cafe beginning at 6 p.m. The reception is a social event that will feature a hosted wine bar and hors d'oeuvres. Pre-concert reception seats are $80 and concert-only seats are $39. Doors open at 7 p.m.
