09.03.2009 – PASADENA, CALIF. -- Blogged.com, a community that spotlights what's happening in the world through the people and voices shaping the blogosphere, is changing the way people experience the news - turning a once static activity into a social, participatory, and connected conversation. The company also rolled out a new widget that lets bloggers take full advantage of these dynamic conversations on their own site.
It all starts with community. Blogged brings people together to interact around the latest events and news. Visitors can login with either their Facebook or Blogged.com ID to start sharing their thoughts and opinions about the blog posts that move them.
All blog stories are open for public discussion, with the most popular making the front page where people can leave comments, respond to other commenters, and "like" and share posts similar to the way they do in Facebook. In fact, those who log in using Facebook credentials can extend their activity back to their connections in the social network - expanding the conversation and creating a bridge between Blogged.com and Facebook.
The Blogged Facebook Application, as well as integration with Twitter, make it easier than ever for people to spark conversations, share what's interesting, and make new connections with people who have similar interests.
"News events have always been natural conversation starters. From a controversial trade in the NBA to a political speech or Hollywood scandal, we all have opinions we want to share. Yet, until now there wasn't a central location for these conversations," said Gladys Kong, co-founder of Blogged.com.
Kong continued, "Traditional news media has been one-directional. And while blogs elicit reader comments, they're typically scattered across the web for a fragmented experience. With Blogged, we're pulling together all these stories and their insightful discussions into a single social hub."
And with its new social features, Blogged isn't just shaping the consumption of online news, it's re-energizing the blog through conversation and community. While Twitter and Facebook may be the latest darlings of social media, Blogged.com is proving that blogs are more relevant and important than ever.
The company is also helping bloggers create stronger connections with their audience and community. For example, a new widget enables bloggers to bring the community discussions on Blogged back to their site. And since each Blogged member has his or her own profile, bloggers are better able to understand who's interested in, following, and reacting to their content. Other available widgets help bloggers take full advantage of all of Blogged.com's resources.
