La Sportiva to Support Fifth Annual Adventure Film Festival

Adventure Film Fest Promises to "Make your own legends."

11.03.2009 – La Sportiva N.A., makers of technical climbing, mountaineering, Mountain Running® and hiking footwear, announced it will be sponsoring the fifth annual Adventure Film Festival, from November 12-14, 2009, in Boulder, Colorado.

“La Sportiva is honored to be a partner of the fifth annual Adventure Film Festival,” says La Sportiva Marketing Manager, Laura Fryer. “Locally based here in Boulder, Colorado, we chose to support the Adventure Film Festival as they represent a collective of adventurers, artists, filmmakers and activists who are committed to creating positive change in our world. Any time that we can encourage and inspire individuals to step out of their daily existence and be a part of something bigger, mobilize people and challenge the world we live in, La Sportiva wants to contribute.”

This three-day festival features over 30 high caliber films handpicked by the Adventure Film Selection Committee from over 200 entries submitted from an international community of explorers, adventurists and environmentalists. The eclectic lineup features films on exploration, surfing, climbing, biking, skiing, as well as films that tackle environmentalism, global awareness and social issues. In conjunction with the festival, there will also be an Adventure Filmmaking Workshop designed to inspire the audience to create outdoor films of their own. Panel discussions with filmmakers, photography exhibits, gear giveaways, live music and fundraising for non-profit organizations will complete the festival experience.

This year’s festival will pay tribute to the late Jonathan “Jonny” Copp, the Adventure Film’s co-founder and visionary who was killed in an avalanche in western China this past spring, during an expedition to make the first ascent of the 6800-meter Mount Edgar. Sender Films will pay tribute to Johnny Copp, Micah Dash, and Wade Johnson, with a special episode from the new National Geographic series ‘First Ascent: Point of No Return.’ The film documents the final days of the Boulder team and reminds us all of the spirit of Adventure Film-the belief in the power of the story and the narrative of adventure and awakening to change. With over 5000 attendees in 2008, the Adventure Film Festival will continue on with the support of filmmakers, community sponsors, industry partners, non-profits and volunteers.

Following the festival in Boulder, Adventure Film mobilizes the finest films from 2009 and brings them to life on the big screen in venues around the world including South America, Europe and South Africa. For more information on the Adventure Film Festival, go to: .
