04.16.2009 – DENVER - A group of nonprofit leaders graduated from social media “college” last week, completing two seminars offered by MGA Communications titled “Social Media 101: The Basics” and “Social Media 201: Strategy, Measurement and Evaluation.”
“Nonprofits serve a critical role in our community, particularly during challenging economic times, and we want to help them take advantage of this powerful new tool,” said MGA President Jeff Julin. “Especially in today’s world, nonprofits need to continuously and strategically engage the community in supporting their efforts. Social media offers them a way to do that.”
Denver-based public relations firm MGA Communications, Inc., offered the sessions as part of its free Nonprofit Buzz workshop series. These roundtable sessions give nonprofit leaders an opportunity to learn about communications topics in a small group setting, ask questions and exchange perspectives.
MGA launched its Nonprofit Buzz series in spring 2008, covering topics such as media relations, strategic communications planning and public affairs. The Social Media 101 and 201 presentations were the most popular to date, as participants discovered when, how and why to use social networking tools to reach donors, volunteers and other supporters.
As a public relations, marketing and research firm that has been operating in Denver for more than 20 years, MGA Communications has a long history of helping nonprofits serve the community. The Nonprofit Buzz series is an extension of that commitment to contribute to the health of the Denver metro area.
