Kane Consulting announces two dates for "Social Media 101 - A Beginner Bootcamp" in Minneapolis

Two events scheduled, April 24 and May 18. Top educators in the industry will provide one-day immersion in social media.

03.26.2009 – MINNEAPOLIS - Social media is changing the nature of communications, marketing and sales. But something has been missing in the buzz - how do you actually DO this stuff?

"Social Media 101 - A Beginner Bootcamp" will teach participants basic social media strategies and skills that can be applied immediately to enhance business and marketing efforts.

Due to high demand, Kane Consulting is now offering two dates for this one day immersion in social media:

April 24, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at Aloft Hotel in Minneapolis
May 18, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at Aloft Hotel in Minneapolis

Kane Consulting, a Minneapolis-based new media marketing and public relations firm, will bring together top educators in the industry for a strategic overview on why social media is relevant, how it works, and why it works. Breakout sessions will then explore the different social media tools and how to use them, including:

• Blogs
• Twitter
• Social Media Communities (Facebook/LinkedIn)
• Mobile (social media on the go)

Additionally, the day will include open lab periods where attendees can network with each other, explore applications and set-up accounts. Our social media SWAT team will be on hand throughout the day to answer questions and provide technical support.

"All of us on the bootcamp team have been approached by people asking for practical advice on how to use social media. People are telling us that they're leaving most events about this topic with more questions than answers," says Jennifer Kane, principal of Kane Consulting. "In response, we decided to create a back-to-basics overview where 'there are no dumb questions,' so people can explore this new medium with confidence."

This workshop promises to arm attendees with:

• A better understanding of the social media landscape, how to fit into it, and use it to market a business or organization;
• A basic road map and skill set for navigating the tools of the trade;
• Your own burgeoning social network of like-minded professionals;
• A flash drive loaded with additional resources - a "virtual tool kit" - to take back to the office and keep for personal or professional use.

About the Bootcamp educators:
Nancy Lyons and Meghan Wilker, The Geek Girls Guide/ClockWork Active Media Systems
Nancy is President and CEO of Clockwork Active Media Systems. She has been chosen by the Business Journal as one of the Twin Cities' 40 under as well as one of the Twin Cities' Women To Watch. Meghan is Managing Director of Clockwork Active Media Systems. She has been focused on Interactive since 2000 and has a passion for Interactive project management, strategy, information architecture and usability analysis.

Lyons and Wilker launched the Geek Girls Guide as a place to publish their perspective on the interactive industry and demystify technology for women.

Jennifer Kane, Kane Consulting
Jennifer has more than a decade's worth of experience in marketing, communications and events. Kane Consulting works with small businesses and associations to revolutionize their "old school" marketing and PR efforts by using "new school" strategies and tools. This includes producing educational events to help professionals better understand the new media landscape.

Jenifer Bohmbach, Gumption
Jennifer is the co-president of Gumption, LLC. She has been a consultant for over 13 years regarding all things related to the Internet including information architecture, social media design, user research, usability testing, internal user experience team management, and workshop facilitation.

Lisa Foote, Gumption, Kwingo
Lisa is co-founder of Kwingo.net, an innovative mobile marketing provider.
