GSN and WorldWinner Kick off Second W3Games Championship in Bejeweled 2

With a Total of $100,000 on the Line, PopCap's Most Popular Casual Game Seeks a World Champion

04.21.2009 – GSN and WorldWinner (www.worldwinner.com) today announced that the Bejeweled 2 W3Games Championship, the second marquee tournament of the 2009 WorldWide Web Games (W3Games) championship series, will begin on April 27. On the heels of a heated Solitaire Rush W3Games Championship, WorldWinner and GSN now invite game enthusiasts to vie for their share of a $100,000 prize and the World Champion title in the most popular casual game of the 21st century.

“Casual gamers everywhere love Bejeweled 2, and WorldWinner’s players are no exception,” said Christian Meyer, chief marketing officer of WorldWinner and senior vice president of Marketing, GSN Digital. “With its widespread appeal, we know Bejeweled 2 will spark the competitive spirit in even more game enthusiasts. We challenge every Bejeweled fan out there to enter the tournament and test their gem-matching skills against the best of the best.”

“PopCap’s Bejeweled franchise has consumed over 6 billion hours of leisure time since it launched in 2000, with Bejeweled lovers playing for all sorts of reasons - to fight boredom at work, to unwind after a busy day or to keep their minds sharp while they’re job hunting,” said Ben Rotholtz, vice president of Marketing, PopCap. “The W3Games gives Bejeweled fans two more reasons to get excited about the game: real cash prizes and a World Champion title.”

The 2009 W3Games is year-long series of online game tournaments featuring four marquee titles - Solitaire Rush, Bejeweled 2, Wheel of Fortune and Big Money - each with a $100,000 prize pool. The top 32 finishers in each are guaranteed a portion of that game’s prize pool. Boersma5 (Amy from East Lansing, Michigan), took home the World Champion title in the first W3Games tournament, Solitaire Rush. Several additional tournaments will be announced throughout the year.

“When I heard that Bejeweled 2 would be the next W3Games tournament, I couldn’t wait to compete,” said Kavitha Shah, 2006 W3Games Champion. “Bejeweled is one of my all-time favorites, and was my strongest game during my 2006 win. Everyone has been practicing and the competition is guaranteed to be fierce, but I’m up to the challenge!”

Players can enter the qualifying round beginning on April 27 at noon EDT through noon EDT on May 3.
