Our secret to great photos
Fresh ideas from the local, digital marketing sphere. Pitchengine's mission is simple: Smarter Marketing.
Have you ever noticed how a well-set photograph can transform an otherwise ordinary situation into a wonderful masterpiece? Or, on the other hand, witnessed a gorgeous view, turned dull? The key differentiator is photo composition.
We’ve picked the brain of one or our most talented photographers to learn his fool-proof rules for transforming your photos from 'meh to wow!:
Rule #1 Apply the Rule of 3rds
“The rule of thirds is applied by aligning a subject with the guide-lines and their intersection points, placing the horizon on the top or bottom line, or allowing linear features in the image to flow from section to section.” - Wikipedia
Rule #2 Pay attention to light direction
Use your eyeballs and brain to avoid undesirable shadows or silhouettes. Don’t be afraid to have your subjects reposition.
Rule #3 Practice and have fun
The only way to improve your photography skills is to practice. Eventually you will train your eye to see the best way to compose the shot.
Once you have these very basic skills down, you can start to move onto the fun part, telling a story with your photo. When asked 'What makes a great photograph?' photographer Dario Endara replied, “The most important element of a good photograph is the ability of the photo to communicate with the viewer. It should be able to tell a story through its composition, lighting, and most importantly its subject matter.”
