Gail Ambrosius Chocolatier is the first Madison, Wis., retailer with products available on a “mobile gifting” platform that enables users to send gifts as text message vouchers to cell phones.
KangoGift combines the instant nature of virtual gifts, which are popular on sites such as Facebook, with the satisfaction of receiving a real, tangible product. Gift recipients just stop by Ambrosius’s shop at 2086 Atwood Avenue, present their text vouchers, and pick up their chocolate gift.
“We’re really excited to participate because it seems like such a natural,” Gail Ambrosius said. “How many times have you wanted to give someone you care about a little treat? KangoGift makes it so instant, easy and affordable. And for me as a businesswoman, it’s a great way to drive traffic into my store and build our growing communities on Facebook and Twitter.”
Gift givers can shop at Ambrosius’s mobile gifting store, accessible at gailambrosius.com and kangogift.com. Choices range from a single truffle for $1.90 to the Tower of Power truffle collection for $77.
KangoGift, headquartered in Cambridge, Mass., launched in 2009 and has retail partners in approximately 30 cities, mostly in Massachusetts and New York. The company is rapidly expanding into new markets and was named one of Entrepreneur Magazine’s 100 Brilliant Ideas for 2010.
“Madison is a great market for the mobile gift concept because it has such a tech-savvy population,” said Thad Peterson, one of KangoGift’s founders. “But it takes more than the right technology—you need the right products. Gourmet chocolate makes for a perfect instant gift. We’re thrilled to work with Gail Ambrosius because we want to have the highest quality offering for the people giving and getting the gifts.”
