New GEICOteendriving.com portal features YouTube videos, Facebook Cause page and blogs for teens

WASHINGTON, D.C., 2009 – GEICO is launching its new GEICOteendriving.com portal, filled with safe driving messages through a YouTube channel, Facebook Cause page and blog entries.
Several YouTube “celebrities” have contributed their videos for a series of safe driving spots throughout the summer, including:
• NDTitanLady
• TayZonday
• Household Hacker
Teens can post their comments on the site and can also add their own safe driving videos.
Teens will appreciate the teen driving Cause Facebook page GEICO created where they’re encouraged to join the Cause of keeping their friends safe. They can publish the cause on their individual Facebook pages.
If you’re a blogger, take note: the GEICO Teen Driving blog is ready for new posts and interactive discussions.
GEICO says to look for its parent-teen contract for families to customize around their own driving expectations. It’s unique because parents are also accountable for their driving behaviors.
If you’re getting ready to get your driving permit, GEICOteendriving.com will help you get started with state licensing laws.
GEICO’s involvement in teen driving isn’t limited to online media; the company’s grassroots Speakers Bureau is active in schools across the country. GEICO associates regularly speak to teens and the new portal will allow them to reach teens using several social networking platforms.
“Teens are an important audience for us to reach,” said GEICO assistant vice president, Janice Minshall. “It’s important to break through to new drivers early to have the most impact on their driving behavior later on.”
All of GEICO’s safety materials—including brochures, tip sheets and DVDs—are available online to download and print. Free hard copies can be ordered at the site. The GEICO Educational Foundation, created to promote traffic and highway safety, funds GEICO’s national teen safe driving campaign to help teen drivers become safe drivers.
