It's becoming more and more common that as world records are broken and heroes are made, GoPro is proudly attached to the man or machine involved. GoPro's "HERO" line of wearable sports cameras is the number one selling line of wearable sports cameras in the world. With cameras designed for sports ranging from surfing to skiing, motocross to mountain biking, GoPro makes it easy for athletes of any ability to capture their life's most thrilling moments.
Renner, a freestyle motocross superstar, is no stranger to world records and fame. He is an X-Games gold medalist in "Step Up," and he already held the world record in the quarterpipe jump. Renner was not quite satisfied with his first record and distanced himself yet again with this latest attempt. Renner upped the ante by gaining four feet, two inches over his last record, launching his moto to a whopping 63 feet five inches.
Chicago's world famous skyline provided the background, making the Red Bull High Rise a fitting location for Renner's new record attempt. With a prototype GoPro HD HERO fixed to his bike, Renner made friends with the skyscrapers, pulling a huge inverted tail whip as he soared from the quarter pipe's boards. It only took three tries for Renner to make the mark as Guinness World Record's Book judges certified the vertical measurement.
"We never know where our relationship with Red Bull or Ronnie Renner will take us," said GoPro founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman. "But, we know it will always be exciting and a first in the action sports world."
Woodman adds, "In June, GoPro's Motorsports HERO WIDE cameras were used to film Brian Vickers' NASCAR pitstop in Times Square, Robbie Maddison's backflip across the Tower Bridge in London, and now Ronnie going big with an early sample of our soon-to-be-released HD Motorsports HERO camera during his world record jump in Chicago. Personally, I've been drinking Red Bull for years as we've worked tirelessly to build GoPro into the world's leading wearable sports cameras company. There's a lot of Red Bull in our long design meetings, I can promise you! It feels great to see their athletes documenting their incredible feats with GoPro's cameras," Woodman said.
