Los Angeles, CA --  Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) will host a Homeownership Resource Fair on Saturday, February 4, 2012. The organization will provide information on a variety of opportunities for Los Angeles-area, low-income individuals and families interested in affordable homeownership and home repair services.  The Homeownership Resource Fair will take place at Cal State University, Dominguez Hills in the Loker Student Union at 1000 East Victoria Street in the city of Carson and is open to the general public.  Two sessions will be available (9:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-4:00pm). Admission and parking is free and advance registration is required.

The Homeownership Resource Fair will offer workshops on the following topics:

  • How to Purchase a Zero-Interest HFH GLA Home
  • What is “Mortgage Assistance” and Can I Qualify?
  • Habitat for Heroes Program for Veterans
  • How to Improve Credit Scores, Avoiding Pitfalls in the Property Tax Process, Neighborhood Watch Programs and more

Attendees must register online in advance at: www.habitatla.org/homeownershipfair and choose either the morning session (9am-12pm) or afternoon session (1pm-4pm).  Space is limited so interested individuals are encouraged to register online by February 1 or by calling the HFH GLA offices at 424-246-3651.  To learn more about the Fair, please visit our website at www.habitatla.org.

HFH GLA has a limited number of homeownership and mortgage assistance opportunities available to qualified low-income households. These opportunities have been made possible through federal stimulus funding awarded to HFH GLA by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Neighborhood Stablization Program 2 (NSP2) to encourage and promote increased homeownership and financial stability among low-income individuals and families. Applications for these programs will be available at the Homeownership Resource Fair and will be accepted and reviewed by HFH GLA on a first-come, first-served basis.  In addition, HFH GLA and The Home Depot Foundation partnered to assist low-income Veteran households in need of critical home repair.  A workshop and applications will also be highlighted and distributed at the event.

Financial support for the Homeownership Resource Fair has been generously provided by First California Bank. Additional co-sponsors include Union Bank, Caring Realty, Northern Trust and California State University Dominguez Hills.  Presenting Partners include Faithful Central, International City Mortgage, Los Angeles Urban League, National Council of La Raza, Operation Hope, Thrivent Financial, VA Los Angeles, US Vets, Volunteers of America and Wells Fargo.
