“A Compassionate Response to Homelessness and Poverty Group realizes that L.A.’s substandard housing problem is not going to solve itself,” says Erin Rank, President & CEO of HFH GLA. “Their large contribution of nails is a great example of how organizations can work together to provide a tangible solution to our city’s affordable housing crisis.”
It only takes 35,000 nails to build a Habitat for Humanity home. Through volunteer labor, as well as donations of money and materials, HFH GLA builds homes in partnership with hardworking, low-income families and individuals. Partner homeowners must fulfill a “sweat equity” requirement and be able to pay back a zero-interest mortgage. House payments are then used by HFH GLA to build, or rehabilitate, more homes. Since 1990, HFH GLA has built and renovated more than 700 homes locally and worldwide and proudly boasts a mortgage default rate of less than 1%.
Los Angeles County continues to be one of the least affordable places to live and more than half of its residents live below the poverty level. The nail donation by A Compassionate Response to Homelessness and Poverty Group is just one of the ways that organizations can join forces to improve the lives of hardworking families and individuals in Los Angeles.
