Michael Bug Deakin, founder Heritage Salvage was inspired to launch a local campaign to raise awareness reducing single use plastics and to help retire the plastic gyre in the Pacific Ocean.
The floating garbage patch in the Pacific Ocean is estimated to be two times the size of Texas. Our use of disposable plastics contributes to this:
? Every Hour Americans throw away 2.5 Million plastic bottles.
? We use more than 1 Billion plastic bags per day!
? AND 10% of our 240 Billion Tons of Trash end up in Pacific Ocean gyres.
Plastic Is Drastic campaign launch includes a family challenge, production of stainless steel water bottles and beer mugs, and a family edutainment event starring Hillside Fire debuting their campaign theme song, Calling.
Heritage Salvage teamed with The KRSH 95.9 Radio and Sonoma County Gazette to sponsor The Krush Family Reduce Plastic Use Challenge:
?WHO: 3 families with 2-3 children
WHEN: 3 Weeks from MARCH-APRIL?
WHAT: ALL Family members track & save EVERY piece of plastic that goes through the household. ?
