Knifedge Wins Top Digital Awards For Crisis Christmas E-Cards

UK digital agency supports homeless charity

Knifedge, the creative content and digital agency, has won two top digital awards this week for an entertaining Christmas fundraising campaign it created which raised over £650,000 for Crisis UK, the homeless charity.

The “Crisis Christmas Card” campaign was awarded Best Digital Campaign at the CorpComms Digi Awards, and Best Use of E-Media at The Institute of Fundraising National Awards. In winning the awards, Knifedge beat off stiff competition from other top agencies including AMV BBDO, Lexis PR, Waggener Edstrom and Seventy Seven.

Knifedge’s brief was to create a comedic concept which companies in the City of London could send out as their Christmas e-card, announcing their support of Crisis at Chrismas. The agency’s solution was a clever play on the traditional Christmas Cracker joke. A group of top comedians was filmed including Alan Carr, Rufus Hound, Russell Kane and League of Gentlemen stars Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith. The comics popped out of a giant animated cracker, delivering the most groan-worthy jokes they could think of.

Participating companies were able to select and preview their chosen card via a bespoke online portal. They could also upload contact lists and cards were automatically personalised. A variety of package options allowed companies to participate no matter how large or small their budget. The e-cards were created in Flash and delivered via dot mailer to ensure successful delivery.

The campaign was such a hit that 21,000 cards were sent out over the Christmas period and over £650,000 was raised – representing a nine-fold return on investment.

Jonathan Bridgen, managing director of Knifedge, comments:
“This was a simple but powerful creative idea which really captured the imagination of companies in the City of London. It shows that when charities are prepared to invest a bit more in top level digital creativity, the returns can be exceptional. We’re delighted to have helped Crisis raise so much money, and honoured to gain more recognition for our growing portfolio of digital work.”
