HOK Taps Jeff Goodale to Co-Lead Firm's Justice Practice

Together with John Eisenlau, he will expand firm's national resources and expertise within the growing Justice sector.

CHICAGO – HOK, a global architectural design and services firm, has appointed Jeff Goodale as Senior Vice President and Co-Director of the firm's Justice business unit. In this role, he and Senior Vice President John Eisenlau will co-lead the firmwide Justice practice, expanding HOK's resources to support business development, project design/delivery, client relations, financial management and staff development. The addition of Goodale also will help position HOK to fully benefit from the expected increase in U.S. federal, state and county justice work.

A 22-year veteran of justice design, Goodale has spent the last nine years of his career as HDR's Director of Correction/Detention Design. His expertise includes master planning, programming, design, security consulting and construction management. Goodale has overseen projects ranging from 50 to 1,800 beds, and his experience encompasses diverse facility types, including federal, jails and detention, youth and juvenile, correctional/prison, courts and administration, and public safety sectors. His experience also includes healthcare, education and other civic projects.

Goodale will share leadership duties with Eisenlau, who has more than 20 years of experience in justice architecture design and project execution. Based in St. Louis, Eisenlau has managed some of HOK’s largest county detention and state correctional projects nationwide. He possesses a deep understanding of the project delivery methods deployed by county, state and federal agencies and has a firm grasp of the trends emerging in detention and correction design.

Goodale and Eisenlau will focus on growing HOK's Justice practice, working closely with the firm's regional practice leaders: Bill Prindle (Dallas), Duncan Broyd (Florida), Chuck Oraftik and Catherine Chan (San Francisco), Jim Kessler (Washington, D.C.) and Michael Katzin (Atlanta).

"Jeff is a respected thought leader and innovator within the justice market, and I look forward to working with him to advance HOK's Justice practice," Eisenlau says. "His addition to our already strong team will propel HOK to new heights within the Justice sector."

Goodale earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture studies from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. A licensed architect, he is a member of the American Correctional Association and is a frequent speaker and writer on a variety of justice-related topics.
