ORLANDO, FLA. — One of Central Florida’s leading LASIK eye surgeons is asking for something unexpected this Christmas—glasses.
Dr. Joel Hunter, the founder of Hunter Vision 3D LASIK (http://www.huntervision.com) and son of noted Central Florida pastor Joel C. Hunter, is teaming up with TIME Ministries (http://www.timeministries.org) to bring the gift of sight to hundreds of impoverished individuals in the Dominican Republic.
In 2012, a team from Hunter Vision will take donated eyeglasses to the DR to bring clear vision to those who don't have access to it.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to change people's lives,” Dr. Hunter explains. “I know it seems ironic—a LASIK practice working to put people in glasses. While 3D LASIK provides an end to the inconvenience of glasses, afterwards, we’re left with pile of specs that have lost their purpose. I’m thrilled we can re-use them in this way.”
Last year, a group from TIME Ministries went over to the DR with glasses donations from American Airlines and Lions Clubs International. Team member Mike Shaw reported that giving people glasses and enabling them to see was "giving them the best Christmas present. To give a pair of glasses to a child who has never seen clearly is amazing. Their faces just light up.”
Now, this Christmas, Central Floridians have an opportunity to give the gift of sight to people in need. It doesn't require money, just a pair of glasses that aren’t being used anymore.
