The idea for the dress started three years ago when Monica shopped at Amity's upscale boutique, the Odd Showroom. Supporting local artists and businesses has always been important to Monica. This is what brought her and partner Jamaica Jenkins' web-based group gifting service, Inlu.com to fruition. "There are so many amazing small businesses with dazzling treasures to be shared, we wanted to make it easy for people to come together and give local, hand crafted and planet-friendly gifts."
According to Amity, the dress took about 40 hours to make and it was "an honor" to craft a dress for such an enchanting evening. Together, the ladies shopped for yarn and Monica had a piece of silk from a recent trip to India incorporated into the piece. "I was inspired by Amity's handmade designs, which she creates right at the counter in her shop. I trusted her amazing ability to select the perfect color, style, and shape-- and the results were magical. She listened carefully to my hopes and issues as she conceptualized the dress. I didn't know what on earth it would ultimately look like, but I knew it would be perfect... and it was." The dress was a hit on the Red Carpet and the roof top after party for the cast and crew of Cowboys & Aliens.
Monica's silk clutch was also a local inspiration found at A Little Something a local shop in Shelburne, Vermont. Diedre Stapleton, owner, was thrilled to have the "just right" piece to compliment the dress. For the entire story, visit Inlu.com's Blog.
