Insect Shield Incorporates Panel of Experts into Social Media Strategy

Experts to Provide Latest Information about Insects and Insect-Borne Diseases

02.12.2010 – Insect Shield, known for its first-ever EPA-registered insect-repellent apparel and gear, views educating consumers about insects, insect-borne diseases and the latest prevention tools as one of its most important objectives. That is why they have developed a panel of experts as part of their social media strategy to help achieve these goals.

The panel will include a select line-up of global health professionals, university professors, entomologists, philanthropists and outdoor experts. Panel members will discuss the current status of vector-borne health threats, including incidence and symptoms of the diseases, and focus on determining and effectively informing the public of the most up-to-date, beneficial, insect-borne disease prevention methods.

The first Insect Shield expert to be profiled is Dr. Thomas Mather. One of the nation’s leading tick experts, Thomas Mather, Ph.D., is an established authority on preventing Lyme disease. He is professor of Public Health Entomology at the University of Rhode Island and Director of URI’s Tick Encounter Resource Center (TERC). His work in tick ecology, tick control and anti-tick vaccine development is nationally and internationally recognized, and TERC’s interactive website, www.tickencounter.org is fast becoming the nation’s leading resource for tick bite protection and tick-borne disease prevention.
