Buggies with Insect Shield Launches Playwear Collection for Infants & Toddlers

EPA-registered since 2003, Insect Shield Repellent Apparel repels mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers and midges/no-see-ums. Repellency lasts through 70 launderings.

SEATTLE, WA – When enjoying the outdoors, parents can’t help but be concerned about their children being exposed to pesky, potentially dangerous insects. That is why Soy Genius Kids teamed up with Insect Shield® to develop the Buggies™ collection of insect-repellent playwear. Buggies is the only line of Insect Shield apparel for infants and toddlers – keeping children cute, comfortable and protected from an array of nasty bugs. Buggies apparel and accessories are available now in select REI stores, www.rei.com and at www.buggiesclothing.com.

All Buggies products are constructed with the Soy Genius Kids’ exclusive fabric blend of soy fiber and organic cotton. The fabric is comfortable, durable and naturally wicking. The fabric also provides a UPF 30+ rating as well as antimicrobial properties. It is the ultimate fabric to keep children comfortable and protected in the outdoors.

The Buggies collection offers adorable and stylish playwear for infants and toddlers with innovative Insect Shield® Repellent Technology, providing protection from a variety of bugs – including those that can carry West Nile virus, Lyme disease, malaria and other insect-borne diseases. Insect Shield’s patent-pending process binds insect repellent to fabric to repel mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers, midges (no-see-ums.)

The odorless insect protection provided by Insect Shield apparel lasts through 70 launderings: the typical lifetime of a garment. The active ingredient is permethrin, a man-made version of a natural insect repellent found in certain chrysanthemum plants, such as the African daisy. Permethrin has been successfully used in the United States since 1977, with an excellent safety record. Insect Shield’s EPA registration does not restrict use of the apparel. Products can be worn by infants, children of all ages, and women who are pregnant or nursing. Wearing Insect Shield apparel reduces the need for topical repellents.

“We are thrilled to be working with Buggies to bring Insect Shield protection to a younger generation,” says Rick Hemmerling, Insect Shield Vice President of Business Development. “The Buggies products will help parents have peace of mind so they can concentrate on enjoying their time with family in the outdoors.”
