Golfweek Magazine Declares Jay Peak Golf Course Best in Vermont

Golfweek Magazine Names Jay Peak #1 Golf Course in Vermont

(Jay, VT)- Golfweek Magazine has declared Jay Peak’s golf course the best in the state. The magazine announced the resort’s #1 ranking on its web site this week. The printed edition hits newsstands on May 1st.

Golfweek, which touts itself as “For Serious Golfers Only,” has been recognized by the Wall Street Journal as being one of the most informative golf publications in the country. Every year the magazine publishes a Best Courses list for each state. In receiving the #1 designation, Jay Peak beat out such iconic courses as the Stowe Mountain Club and the Golf Club at the Equinox. Courses are ranked on such aspects as layout, the quality of the feature shaping, natural setting and overall land plan, and variety and memorability.

Some other #1 courses from around the country include New York’s Bethpage Black, Florida’s TPC Sawgrass, and California’s Pebble Beach, host to last year’s U.S. Open.

"It’s quite an honor to be recognized by such a publication,” said Jaime Stenger, Jay Peak’s manager of golf operations. “That magazine is read by people who really love the sport and the ranking is a credit to (Jay Peak president) Bill Stenger's vision, Graham Cooke’s creation, and Howie Nosek's preparation, not to mention the hundreds of local employees that welcome golfers from all over the world daily."

Graham Cooke is the renowned golf course architect who designed Jay Peak’s championship course. Howie Nosek is the course’s superintendent.

The course opened to the public in 2006. A brand-new clubhouse complete with a restaurant and bar, locker rooms, and three luxury suites opened last summer. Jay Peak plans to open the course for the summer season on May 14th.
