Bill Lunde looks to capture Kodak Challenge at Disney

No. 17 at Walt Disney World Resort’s Magnolia Course to host final Kodak

Lake Buena Vista, FL -- For the third consecutive year, the race for the Kodak Challenge will be officially decided at the final event of the PGA TOUR Fall Series, the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic at Walt Disney World Resort, October 20-23 in Lake Buena Vista, FL. PGA TOUR winner Bill Lunde currently holds a two-stroke lead over Cameron Tringale, the only player who can catch him in the quest for the winner-take-all $1 million Kodak Challenge prize.

Now in its third season, the Kodak Challenge celebrates beautiful holes and memorable moments on the PGA TOUR and challenges players to perform their best on 30 designated Kodak Challenge holes. The player with the lowest cumulative score on his best 18 Kodak Challenge holes wins the $1 million. The 485-yard, par-4 17th on the Magnolia Course is the 30th and final hole of the 2011 Kodak Challenge season.

Lunde, who was out of golf and working in sales at a golf course just a few years ago, first grabbed the Kodak Challenge lead at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard in March. He has held at least a share of the lead for 21 consecutive holes. The odds now favor with Lunde, as Tringale needs eagle on the final hole in order to force a playoff. Lunde can clinch it outright with an eagle of his own on No. 17. In 2009, Charles Warren had an improbable eagle on the Kodak Challenge hole at No. 17 on the Magnolia Course. It was the first on that hole since 1998 (Lanny Wadkins) and the fifth since 1983.

“The Kodak Challenge competition is a unique way to share the heritage of our brand and the continued innovation at Kodak,” said Steve Powell, director of program development for the Kodak Challenge. “From Jarrod Lyle’s hole-in-one at hole No. 17 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open to J.B. Holmes’ double eagle at the Wells Fargo Championship, plus our first-ever visit to the famed island hole No. 17 at THE PLAYERS Championship, we’ve celebrated many great holes and memorable moments with fans and players this year. It has been an exciting Kodak Challenge race in 2011, and we’re looking forward to crowning our next champion this week at the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic.”

In the event of a tie at the conclusion of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic, a playoff will be held on No. 17 until a winner is declared. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic officials are prepared to place lights on the 17th to allow a playoff after dark, if necessary. Last year, Troy Merritt defeated Rickie Fowler and Aaron Baddeley on the first playoff hole.

“The Kodak Challenge has brought a new level of excitement for tournaments, fans and players at 30 PGA TOUR events this year,” said Tom Wade, PGA TOUR executive vice president and chief marketing officer. “We look forward to another memorable finish at the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic.”

One of the more challenging holes on the Magnolia Golf Course, the par-4 17th playing up to 485 yards requires a pinpoint tee shot over water onto a narrow fairway. A well-played drive with a solid approach sets up a favorable birdie opportunity. All approaches must navigate three greenside bunkers and water around the front and right side of the green.
