“The fourth annual Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament is finally here, and we know the more than 700 players expected to compete are ready to drop the pucks and play some old-school pond hockey,” said Brett Carlsen, associate brand manager, Labatt Blue. “We’re looking forward to a great weekend of pond hockey competition, with plenty of ice cold temps and Labatt Blue to go around.”
The Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament will be held on Lake Erie at downtown Buffalo’s Erie Basin Marina, February 11-13, 2011. Approximate game times are as follows:
• Friday, Feb. 11: 12:45 p.m. – 4 p.m.
• Saturday, Feb. 12: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
• Sunday, Feb. 13: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
In all, 124 teams will compete in 16 divisions. The teams consist of novice, intermediate, advanced and elite players from around the region. Teams are comprised of four to six players, 21 years of age and older, who will play a four-on-four format, absent a goalie. Divisions will be broken down with teams competing in a round robin format. The winner of each bracket will play in a divisional championship game on Sunday. Division teams were assigned based on the skill and experience level of the players. The goal of the tournament is to provide an authentic Real Hockey experience for adult hockey players.
“We’re inviting all of Western New York to stop down to the Erie Basin Marina Feb. 11-13 for a great real hockey experience. Watch the raw, authentic pond hockey on Lake Erie, and be sure to check out the tournament’s other adult activities like The Party Squad band, bubble and air hockey and Wii gaming stations for spectators to enjoy.”
The tournament’s new weather policy is as follows: in the event of inclement weather or unplayable ice, the tournament will be cancelled and players will receive a full refund. The tournament games will not be rescheduled.
