Santa Ana College Debuts Measure E Project

Ribbon ceremony and self-guided tours available March 30

(SANTA ANA, CA) March 26, 2009 - Santa Ana College unveils the new “I” Classroom Building with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2009. This is the first structure built on the campus since 1996 and it was designed by architects, planners and interior designers that specialize in the design of higher education facilities, with an educational and sustainable focus.

“Our intent as designers, was to blend the building into the existing fabric of the campus, we didn’t want it to stick out like a sore thumb,” says Glenn Carels, design principal at LPA Inc. “One of the techniques we used to accomplish our goal was to incorporate materials found in surrounding facilities such as concrete block and metal mesh. We’re all about integration in our projects and in our processes.”

The two-story, 20,000-square-foot building features 16 classrooms conducive to the highest levels of learning. Each classroom holds 45 students and is equipped with ultra-modern technology and multimedia capabilities. This project was made possible by voter-approved Measure E, which gave $337 million for renovation and new construction at both Santa Ana and Santiago Canyon Colleges.

The LPA project team for the “I” Classroom Building includes: managing principal Chris Torrey, design principal Glenn Carels, project manager Young Min, interior designer Winston Bao, and construction administration coordinator Adrienne Tabo.
