Makeover: Towards positive change

In the early part of the 21st century, Americans saw the proliferation of makeover reality shows.

11.05.2009 – In the early part of the 21st century, Americans saw the proliferation of makeover reality shows.

Proving that makeover, defined as an overall treatment to improve the appearance or change the image, does not apply only to women but to men as well, the makeover reality television show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy became so popular to both sexes.

Makeover reality television shows such as MADE, A Makeover Story, Fashion Emergency, Ambush Makeover, Style Court, The Biggest Loser and How Do I Look became popular as well.

These makeover reality television shows pretty much borrowed the plots of 18th and 19th centuries fairy tales such as Charles Perrault's Cinderella (1699), Hans Christian Andersen's The Ugly Swan (1844) and Ovid and Shaw's Pygmalion.

Even Ugly Betty, the epitome of frumpiness on television, got herself a bit of a makeover this season to jibe with her promotion to magazine editor, from being an assistant.

In today's modern society, makeover trend cuts across sexes, generations and social status.

Thought to be ideal only for women, makeover nowadays is trendy to men as well. Makeover is also ideal for the young and the old ones.

Makeover need not be expensive. With many affordable, yet quality makeover sessions, makeover is not limited to the affluents; rather, people of diverse economic status can benefit from makeover.

Contrary to popular belief, makeover does not change who you are. Rather, makeover simply accentuates your best features.

Reasons for makeover vary from one person to another. Some undergo makeover for business in order to be taken seriously at work or to boost confidence; others do it mainly for pleasure; that is, for the pleasure of simply looking attractive or to be taken seriously by a love interest.

To lift the spirits of women battling against breast cancer, last Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the United Breast Cancer Foundation and Hair & Makeup Artist Network offered the women battling against breast cancer a day of makeover pampering.

This Christmas season, one of the gifts that you can give to your loved one is a high fashion makeover. Check out Experience Days Gifts website for more top Christmas experience days gift ideas.
