Dedication Ceremony for Boulevard Court in Sacramento

Former blighted Budget Inn transformed into 75 studio and one-bedroom permanent supportive apartment homes for disabled formerly homeless individuals

Mercy Housing California is dedicating its newest affordable housing community in the Greater Sacramento Region – Boulevard Court – on Thursday, October 6, 2011, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., 5321 Stockton Boulevard, Sacramento, California 95820 with a speakers program, open house, property tour and luncheon.

Boulevard Court is the adaptive re-use of a dilapidated 101-room motel into 37 studio and 37 one-bedroom permanent supportive apartment homes for disabled formerly homeless individuals. A staff unit is also included. The former Budget Inn was a blighted, historically crime-ridden property and a nuisance for the community. In partnership with Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency, the property has been transformed to new construction quality, while making use of the existing foundation, framing, and second level lightweight concrete floor.

The development includes the construction of a new 1,536 square foot community building with meeting rooms, a kitchen and bathrooms. There is additional community space for the residents, including a computer room, lounge, central laundry room, counseling offices, and a part-time Federal Qualified Health Center run by The Effort. The original lobby was expanded to include staff and counseling offices, reception area, work room, storage, bathroom and new lobby area. The one-bedroom units are approximately 462 square feet each and the studios are approximately 308 square feet each. All apartments have kitchens with stoves and refrigerators, one bathroom, wall unit air conditioning/heating system, and window blinds. The total development is 37,246 square feet.

Mercy Housing is partnering with local service providers – The Effort and Turning Point Community Programs – to ensure that residents are successful in maintaining their housing while having the support needed to manage their individual disabilities. The Effort has been providing primary medical care to the underserved in downtown Sacramento since 1970, offering comprehensive services for the complex needs of the patients who come to their clinic for substance abuse and mental health treatment. The agency has a history of working collaboratively in the community to provide the highest quality, most meaningful services to its members. The Sacramento County Division of Mental Health is the lead agency in insuring mental health services are provided for the 25 eligible Mental Health Services Act tenants at Boulevard Court and has contracted with Turning Point Community Programs to deliver the mental health services and programs.
