A net-zero home is the ultimate in energy-efficient building, because it produces as much energy as it consumes, thanks to more than a dozen sustainable features - from spray foam insulation to solar panels, a weather-sensing irrigation system, Low-E windows and remote-controlled thermostats - incorporated into the design and building of the home from the ground up.
There are an estimated 100 net-zero homes in the United States, but all of them are custom-built or spec-display homes. Until now.
Meritage debuted the first net-zero production home in America in metropolitan Phoenix last month. Now, the company is giving away a net-zero home in Arizona.
